Description

Nothing delights the Martin collector more, or us for that matter, than seeing the year 1936 (or '37) in front of the model name! The true Golden Age of Martin Guitars. This super clean D-28 has all the appearance of being a "closet queen"  given how expert the restoration is. Almost 6 decades ago, the guitar was re-topped at the Martin factory; and although there's no documentation attesting to the exact date of the work, we have deduced the procedure took place in the early 1960's judging by the grade of top wood, the pickguard and bracing. The guitar was lovingly restored and brought closer to period specs by renowned Martin craftsman, TJ Thompson including a new period-correct bridge, complete re-fret, re-contouring of the fingerboard, installing period-correct diamonds & squares, and, most importantly, scalloping of the top braces. The setup and playability are top-notch, and the guitar presents exactly as a 1936 D-28 should. This instrument is a compelling option for anyone who's been considering a 1940's D-28 but wishing it had the fuller 30's neck profile and wider string spacing.
