Description

"I didn't want to make Telecasters or Stratocasters or Les Paul copies, I wanted to do my own thing. Because these are original shapes, I had the flexibility to do anything I wanted." -Saul Koll

It's tempting to let Andy's beautiful photography tell the story of this guitar…its looks alone are enough to justify reaching for the Add To Cart button, never mind the fact that it plays and sounds every bit as good as it looks! Go ahead, check out the pictures a little more and then come back to read up on this rare Super Glide Almighty...

We asked Saul to build TME a Silver Sparkle Super Glide Almighty after seeing pictures of his personal Silver Sparkle SGA. It immediately called to mind images of the old Silver Sparkle Grestch Duo Jets we'd drooled over as kids. We were thrilled when he agreed to make us one, especially after learning how few he's made to date (hint: you can easily count them on one hand).

To state the obvious...this guitar looks absolutely incredible in person. While on the surface its vibe is extremely rock-n-roll, there's also an amazing sophistication and class to this guitar when you really start checking it out. Note the way the rich chocolate color of the body and neck are set off by the white binding, combined with the dark rosewood fretboard and red hued side markers, split pearl inlays, pointed fretboard end, the open-back Schaller tuners…there are just so many incredible details on this guitar. Nothing gets by Saul - he's truly a master.

Enough about the looks, right? How does it play, feel, sound? This is one of those guitars that immediately lets you know its an alive instrument via its light overall weight, acoustic resonance, and slinky playing feel. The neck carve is the perfect blend of width and depth - much like a really great vintage Gretsch. It balances perfectly whether seated or standing. Plugged in? Gretsch mixed with a touch of Tele snap and sizzle. There's a strong fundamental to each note and a great clarity to chords (simple or complex voicings).

The neck pickup. Man-oh-man this is a great sounding neck pickup! Fat, round, but always articulate…it's easy to coax jazz, blues, or old school rock and roll out of these TV Jones Classics. The bridge pickup sounds aggressive in the best way possible. If you're the type of player that values nuance in a guitar, this unique SGA will not disappoint.

As you can gather, we love this guitar. It's a rare bird and most definitely a killer guitar - don't let this one pass you by! Priced with a custom Koll Deluxe G&G case.
