Description

"I didn't want to make Telecasters or Stratocasters or Les Paul copies, I wanted to do my own thing. Because these are original shapes, I had the flexibility to do anything I wanted." -Saul Koll

Saul Koll created quite the buzz at this year's NAMM show in California. We snagged as many as we could, and next up from this batch of NAMM guitars is this incredible spruce-topped Super Glide Almighty!

There's a lot to take in on this SGA. From the spruce top to the brilliant TK Smith pickups with tortoise surrounds, to the block inlays and Trini Lopez style "F" hole...so many details working beautifully together to create this unique instrument. There's a decidedly 50s feel to this build and we couldn't decide if we should dip into Jimmy Bryant-esq single note runs, or get into Chuck Berry double-stops. Of course, we did both (well, tried with regards to the Bryant licks) - how could you not on this flat wound equipped beauty?

One part archtop (conceptually), one part semi-hollow body electric, Saul equipped this SGA with a pair of incredible sounding TK Smith Charlie Christian pickups w/custom tortoise rings and man oh man do they sound amazing. It is the sound of the 50s, period. Early rock and roll through jazz...it goes there with the greatest of ease.

This guitar feels incredible in your hands. Like several other guitars we've gotten from Saul, there's a wonderful satin finish that creates an immediate connection between instrument and player. The mix of extremely high build quality and attention to detail crossed with the feel of wood not hidden under a shiny clear coat is just incredible. It is a resonant, lively instrument that sounds great sans amp or plugged in. It's got a snappy, slinky feel that makes it effortless to play. The neck carve sits perfectly between being slightly chunky (depth-wise) and slim (width-wise) - a very comfortable "medium C" carve to be sure.

Don't let this one pass you buy, just a phenomenal guitar in every regard! Priced with a custom Koll Deluxe G&G case.
