Yanuziello Thinline Archtop (1984)

Description

An incredibly rare 1984 Yanuziello carved-top thinline/archtop just in! One of only a small handful built early on in Joe's career. A brief description from Joe Yanuziello himself :

"I originally made this guitar for Roy Patterson (a friend and great jazz player in the Jim Hall tradition). Roy had this one, and another that I build for him later. 

The construction is interesting on these. The sides had an integral solid mahogany block about 3 1/2" wide running from the headblock to the tailblock. The block, with the side frame, was glued to the top - I carved the underside of the top on either side of the block. The mahogany back was carved completely so there was no attachment of the back to the center block. There is a complete air cavity inside except where the block hung from the top.

Lastly, the neck joint is a mortise and tenon."

Those looking for an ES-175-like guitar but want something more comfortable would be wise to consider this beauty. Perhaps a good way to think about it is to imagine an ES-175 melded with a ES-330. The neck carve reminds us a touch of a late 60s Gibson or even an Epiphone Casino - meaning, it's very comfortable to play on whether you're going for a tricky chord solo or even funky R&B rhythm work. If you simply must have a wider carve, you'll want to look elsewhere unfortunately. 

The addictive feel - the incredibly inspiring musicality of Joe's instruments - is also present on this guitar, not surprisingly. The construction lends to a staggering amount of sustain as well. Chords and single notes seem to ring for what feels like minutes, no kidding.
