Description

"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more." - Bill Collings

While based on the classic Les Paul "recipe" - mahogany body/neck, maple top, dual humbuckers - the Collings City Limits vastly expands upon what this style of guitar can be. Sure, it uses the same building blocks, but the results are very different. Let's dig in...

For starters, the City Limits body contours are quite a bit more sophisticated than the classic LP. The back sports a tummy cut and ingenious thigh cut, which means the guitar sits perfectly in your lap when playing seated - no more falling of the right side of your leg. The City Limits balances perfectly, yielding an immediate comfort level we don't experience with Les Pauls (and don't get us wrong, we love a great Les Paul like anyone!).

The fit and finish on this City Limits are fantastic as well. The neck features a perfectly chunky '59 LP style carve with rolled shoulders and flawless fretwork. The resulting playability is no doubt why so many fall in love with Collings guitars - they're so easy to play!

Where the City Limits deviates most from a traditional Les Paul is in the feel. This CL has an almost Tele-like tautness to it, resulting in an addictive, slightly compressed "snap" to single notes and the perfect amount of "fight" when pounding out chords into a cranked amp. This guitar sounds awesome acoustically - loud and articulate with a rich, satisfying midrange.

Plugged in to a Carr Sportsman we pulled Tele-on-steroids clean tones that morphed into a rich, warm and utterly inspiring overdriven tone thanks to the dual Throbak ER-MXV humbuckers. Just like the build and feel, this CL is a bit more modern and refined than a Les Paul - let's call it sophisticated (in a very cool way).

Condition: Excellent+. Little signs of prior ownership (it's an aged finish, fyi).

Looking for a perfected LP-style guitar? This City Limits will easily exceed your expectations. Priced with hardshell case.
