Collings D-42 Brazilian / Adirondack Varnish "Tree of Life" (USED, 2015)

Sold

Description

The Collings D-42, in Brazilian Rosewood, Adirondack Spruce and varnish finish, is a special instrument in the TME / Collings relationship; and we remember it very well. It's constructed with Brazilian Rosewood we originally supplied for our 40th Anniversary Collings instruments -- the wood on this guitar is the last set we had remaining at their shop, and we went all out when using it. Premium Adirondack Spruce top. Varnish. Abalone peghead border. Engraved Waverly tuners. Tree of Life. Quite literally, spec'd to the limit -- with no ornate detail left unselected. (Should we have made it a sunburst? Didn't think of that at the time!)  The original owner has kept it in pristine condition. And while we make a habit of not using the word "mint" unless it's a brand new guitar .... this guitar is in mint condition. Not a hair out of place. Finish 100% flat and glassy, showing only the faintest signs of sinkage (which you'd expect after varnish has been curing for five years). Even having the word "used" attached to it somehow feels wrong. The sound is simultaneously powerful & angelic, with great warmth and color across the spectrum.

Price includes its original TKL case. Since Collings is no longer building with Brazilian Rosewood, this is, quite literally, an irreplaceable guitar -- and one that would certainly be a gem in any collection of their instruments.
