Collings D-42 Brazilian Varnish (2007)

Description

In 2007, varnish was the newest and hottest option from Collings and top-shelf Brazilian was limited but available. Everyone was clamoring for this combination but Collings was moving in their usual, slow, perfection-oriented way (that has not changed!). So when we ordered Brazilian rosewood guitars, we wanted them with all the bells and whistles. This D-42 was just such a guitar. Ordered in 2006, we got it in '07 and it sold almost immediately. And then we waited for more! Little did we know that within a few short years, Brazilian would virtually disappear from the Collings wood options. So when these guitars come back to us, we're obviously thrilled. And when there this clean, we wonder if they'd ever been played (I have it on good authority that it was, but very lovingly).  Everything about the sound of this guitar is magical: big, clear, limitless sustain and overtones that defy imagination. It cries out to be played hard and with passion. It makes all other guitar players in the room lay down their instruments and give up the battle for acoustic supremacy.  Even with a light finger style touch, it delivers.

The condition on this D-42 is close to mint with little to no wear or scratches. There are some slight swirl marks on the side of the peg head where a string winder got a little too close but it's minor stuff. Otherwise, it's fantastic with great action, a very healthy neck set, and plenty of room in the saddle to come down for the player with a lighter touch.
