Description

"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more." - Bill Collings

This is certainly one of the cooler and more unique I-35's we've had in the shop! Featuring a European spruce top, mahogany body and neck, satin "Riviera Burst" finish, and a pair of Throbak SLE-101 Plus humbuckers, Collings has built a guitar that feels like an instant classic - vintage vibes for days!

We're big fans of the spruce top I-35's. There's a decidedly broken-in quality to the tone and feel - likely what an I-35 will feel like in 40 years time along with some hefty play time. It's slightly warmer (not dull, mind you - it's still plenty clear, open, and articulate) with a bit more emphasis on low-mids vs upper-mids. The attack of each note is just a tiny bit rounder and softer as well (makes total sense given that spruce is a softer material than maple).

The satin finish is another spec we're loving. It creates an immediacy that gloss finishes can't deliver. As a player, you immediately connect with the guitar because you can quite literally feel the materials it's made from - it's seductive to be sure, and we think a lot of players will fall in love with it as well. Everything else you know and love about a Collings I-35 is here - flawless fit, finish, and playability.

While we see a lot of guitars and can be prone to saying one is our favorite over another...this is indeed one of our favorite I-35LC's to come though the shop lately. Why? You saw Andy's pics, yes? Priced with hardshell case.
