Description

"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more." - Bill Collings

Our latest I-35 LC offers players a very cool, unique twist on a classic Collings model. Featuring a late 60's style trapeze tailpiece and a set of early 60s style Throbak ESG 102-B humbuckers, you're really getting the best of what 60s semi-hollowbody guitars had to offer. Very cool indeed.

Trapeze vs stoptail - an age-old debate. To be sure, there's more similarities between the two than differences - but - the really analytical types among us (we are too, no judgement) will perceive ever-so-slight differences. When using a stoptail style bridge, you're anchoring the strings directly onto the top of the guitar / center block. Logic dictates this will give you more sustain. A trapeze tailpiece keeps the strings off the top, much like an archtop, which might yield just a smidge less sustain (we have our doubts with this particular guitar) and a slightly more open, acoustic response. Note we said response, not tone. Plugged in, both approaches sound pretty darned close - close enough for rock n' roll as the expression goes.

Everything else you know and love about a Collings I-35LC is here - flawless fit, finish, and playability. These guitars are simply a dream to play. The Throbak ESG 102-B's deliver classic semi-hollow tones - excellent bite in the bridge position and warm, round and open tones on on the neck. Both pickups average around 7.5K, so they're pretty low output as humbuckers go and are designed to give you super accurate late PAF/early PAF# tones.

Just a beautiful, vibey, fun to play, versatile, and awesome sounding guitar. What else did you expect? It's a Collings! Priced with hardshell case.
