Description

"Originally my work was design, modification, repair, and custom building. I guess you would say the objectives were durability, performance, and tone." - Leo Fender

Sometimes a guitar will come along that just has such an undeniable vibe you can't help but be drawn to it. For us? This heavy relic '64 Custom Shop Strat is one of those guitars. There's just something beautiful about a worn Stratocaster, right?

Given the level that the Custom Shop is operating these days, it's not surprising to find that the vibe runs deeper than mere looks when we sat down for a playing session. The first thing that struck us was the feel, which honestly is mostly the point with a relic'd guitar - it just feels broken in in all the best ways. The '59 Esquire neck carve has a really nice, natural feeling taper with perfectly rounded edges (.79"-.97"). If comfort is at the top of the list for you, it's hard to imagine finding a more comfortable carve and setup right out of the box.

Plugged into a cranked  Victoria Club Deluxe we were greeted to classic SRV-inspired tones. Muscular, round, chimey, slightly compressed, great bridge pickup bite...it's everything you look for in a 60's era Strat. The classic move would be to use this guitar for blues, which of course it excels at, but it'd also be fantastic for a range of rock styles.

This heavy relic '64 Fender Custom Shop Strat is proof positive the good folks at Fender are at the top of their game. Just a killer Strat, the end. Priced with hardshell case.
