This is the second Mastery Bridge/Tremolo equipped Duo Glide we've gotten from Saul Koll and as the pics will attest, it's a stunning guitar. Paired with the classic Koll "Glide" body shape, a mixed pair of P90 pickups (Lollar stapletop in the neck and a Throbak in the bridge), and the ever-popular Mastery Bridge/Tremolo, this Black Duo Glide can cover an impressive array of tones, all while looking damned good in the process (dig those tuner buttons for some very cool, subtle detail work). 

With its chambered mahogany body, maple top, P90s, and short scale, you'd be forgiven for thinking this guitar might deliver a very Gibson-sounding experience. What we found was an instrument that carves out its own vibe, from the overall feel down to the tones we were pulling from it. The Mastery Bridge and Tremolo imparts more of a Jazzmaster quality to the fundamental tone, while the P90s bring in the expected Gibson-isms, if you will - midrange, output, chime...it's a really cool combination that sounds somewhere between a Jazzmaster, a Gretsch, and a Gibson. 

The medium C neck carve is incredibly comfortable. A slight taper creates a vintage feel, and the impeccable fretwork provides a deluxe, fast playing experience all the way up the neck. The setup is fantastic - nice medium-low action that rewards softer right hand work and like all Koll's, also allows you to really give it a beating if you're more of a rock player. Some guitars only want to go one direction or the other, but all the Koll's we've played really straddle the line and let the player decide how they want to approach it. No wonder Saul attracts such a diverse roster of pro players who use his instruments. 

Kolls have a very distinct, hand-made quality which we find to be warm, welcoming, and supremely musical. These guitars just pull you right in and inspire you to play. Highly recommended! Priced with a custom Koll Deluxe G&G case.
