Description

"I've always made things. I can't remember a time when I didn't. I've worked as a saddlemaker, carpenter, joiner, aircraft toolmaker, racing motorcycle chassis maker, racing motorcycle engine builder and tuner, guitar repairer and maker. I've also always played guitar which led to several years working for one of London's leading repair shops. Spending time with vintage instruments and their unique and quirky nature, like the motorcycles of the same era, has been a source of inspiration for my own designs." -Damian Probett

This super vibey Probett Rapide was recently sent to us by legendary guitarist, Henry Kaiser. Henry is moving away from short scale guitars at this point in his career, which was the only reason he'd ever part with this beauty. We're big fans of both Probett guitars and Henry so it's a treat to have this guitar in the shop.

The Rapide - a model Damian was building prior to the release of his Rocket and Meteor models - delivers a more modern, ergonomic take on the classic all mahogany, set-neck, twin P90 guitar (LP Special). Right off the bat, the Rapide feels incredibly comfortable, alive, and resonant. The neck carve is the perfect blend of a Gibson and a Fender - a slightly chunky, soft V to C is what it feels like to us. The stainless steel frets deliver a really slick, fast feel and add a cool top-end boost (very slight, mind you) . No two ways about it, this is a really fun & easy to play guitar.

The Hipshot bridge and Ron Thorn staple P90s combine to deliver a really balanced, more open rendering of that classic late 50's P90 snarl we all know and love. Clean or driven, the Rapide is a muscular, nuanced guitar that can do just about anything you ask of it.

Condition: Good. No structural issues, only cosmetic signs of wear via dings, finish chips, finish checking, etc...We really like it - it's honest play wear that adds a vintage vibe to the guitar. The stainless frets show no wear (of course!), and all electronics work as they should. The setup is fantastic.

Damian Probett has earned a reputation for making exceptional instruments that combine the best elements of various makes and models of guitars, all with flawless build quality, feel, and tone. This Rapide is an excellent opportunity for someone to experience his work at a very reasonable price - Henry Kaiser ownership bragging rights? On the house. Priced with hardshell case.
